SAASTA’s Nanotechnology Education Material engages international learners
News category: Newnano
The National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network is a partnership of 14 US leading universities funded by the National Science Foundation. Its primary focus is to provide state-of-the art facilities for nanoscale researchers. In addition, NNIN has a wide ranging education and outreach program that reaches more than 60,000 each year. The NNIN has been promoting SAASTA’s excellent education publication Nanotechnology – A World of New Possibilities.
We have printed copies of the posters and the workbook which we take to conferences and teacher workshops. Through these events we have introduced more than 3,000 teachers to these materials. We provide teachers with handouts that contain the link to the materials so they can print them out for their classroom use. The response to the posters has been overwhelming positive. Teachers are particularly pleased with the format which they believe will engage students because of the bright colors and graphic format. They have also indicated that the topics are wonderful and address real life issues – important in creating interest in nanoscale science and engineering. Many teachers have told us they think it is great to show students materials from another country and how nanotechnology is having an impact all over the world. NNIN does not track how many visitors we have to our education portal but we would assume that several thousand more individuals have viewed your materials through our link. We look forward to continue to share these materials with teachers and students across the US.
