Educational manuals have been developed in collaboration with Jive Media Africa, making use of a series of posters on nanotechnology in water purification, cancer treatment, mining and energy. The resources are aimed at Grade 7 to 9 learners and educators and have been successfully used in workshops with educators.
“These resources were distributed firstly to underprivileged schools, then to other schools and at science festivals around the country,” says Mthuthuzeli Zamxaka, National Project Co-ordinator.
Ultimately, the objective is to inspire debate and critical thinking around nanotechnology in the classroom.
Nanotechnology educator handbook
Since nanotechnology is a new subject, educators often struggle to integrate it into their lesson plans. The aim in developing material for educators is to provide extensive information on nanotechnology with material linked to the curriculum. The objective is to inspire debate and critical thinking around nanotechnology in the classroom. Four lesson plans are available in the handbook: nanotechnology and water, medicine, energy, and mining.
Nanotechnology learner handbook
The learner handbook aims to introduce learners to the use of nanotechnology in water, medicine, energy and mining. The handbook contains a set of four posters and resources to accompany each poster.
